Grand Elk Social Hike to Granby Ute Fort

October 26, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Meetup: Noon at The Grill at Grand Elk so we can carpool over to trailhead
What to bring: water, good footwear, warm layers (gloves/hat), hiking poles (optional)
Join us for a guided hike to explore the remains of the Granby Ute Fort. We will start at the Granby Ranch gazebo trailhead on Village Road about one mile from Silvercreek Inn. The hike will be 4 miles round trip with 350 feet elevation gain. First half is easy trail in mainly sagebrush rolling terrain. Second half follows wildlife game trail up to a plateau (250 ft elevation gain with last 80 being a bit steep and rocky, so hiking poles may be desired). Wonderful views with potential wildlife viewing of deer and turkey vultures.
Our guide: Linda Koshio Rogers is a part-time resident of Granby/Golden, a trip leader for Colorado Mountain Club, a volunteer at RMNP, and a ski instructor at Ski Granby Ranch. She has led this historical hike for the Grand County Historical Association. This hike is included in the GCHA book, “Seven Tours Through Grand County” by Dr. Kristi Martens.
Following our hike, we will have a social gathering at The Grill for those that wish to join!
